How to Reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Resolution) in IT Support
MTTR — Mean Time to Resolution — is one of the clearest signals of how well an IT operation runs. It measures how long, on average, it takes to close an issue from the moment it's reported to the moment it's fixed. Lower MTTR means less downtime, happier employees, and a more efficient IT team.

- Separate categories — offboarding, hardware and "slow laptop" tickets have very different resolution times; a blended average hides where the problem is.
- Track the median too — a few long-running tickets can skew the mean.
- Watch repeat-issue rate — if MTTR looks good but the same issues keep coming back, you're not really resolving them.
